The Open Doors Olympiad is the key to limitless opportunities for education, self-development, and new academic career prospects in Russia for young talented people from around the world. The

Olympiad has been held since 2017. It is organized by the Global Universities Association  in collaboration with leading Russian universities  and supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and Rossotrudnichestvo.

 

Every year, more than 100,000 young, talented, and motivated foreign citizens participate in the Olympiad. The intellectual competition takes place in 14 interdisciplinary profiles (external link), ranging from engineering and medicine to economics and linguistics, and is divided into four tracks: bachelor's, master's, postgraduate, and postdoctoral. The Olympiad is fully remote, free of charge, and conducted in English and Russian, making it accessible to participants from all over the world.

Winning the Olympiad allows you to enroll in undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate educational programs through a one-stop system or secure a position in a research project at one of Russia's leading universities.

How many stages are there to win the Olympiad?

The bachelor's and master's tracks include two stages.

The first stage is a portfolio competition and entrance testing, and the second stage involves completing Olympiad tasks.

The postgraduate and postdoctoral tracks include three stages.

 The first stage for both tracks is a portfolio competition and entrance testing.

 For the postgraduate track, the second stage involves completing Olympiad tasks, and the third stage is an interview with potential supervisors.

For the postdoc track, the second stage involves a video presentation of scientific results, and the third stage involves an interview with the heads of research projects.

 

Who can participate in the Olympiad?

 Foreign citizens or stateless persons, including compatriots living abroad, who have confirmed that they have a previous level of education or have completed it in the year of the Olympiad, depending on the selected track:

  • Bachelor's degree - complete secondary education;
  • Master's degree - higher education level not lower than bachelor's degree;
  • Doctoral degree - higher education level not lower than master's degree or specialist degree;
  • To participate in the postdoctoral track, you must have a PhD or a Candidate/Doctor of Sciences degree.
