For those international applicants who do not speak Russian sufficiently to study in the chosen program instructed in Russian language it is necessary to undergo training within MEPhI Preparatory Training Division. During one study year students study Russian and various general subjects (mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, etc.), depending on the chosen field of study.
Training is conducted at MEPhI campuses at Obninsk (MEPhI branch - Obninsk Institute of Nuclear Power Engineering) and in Moscow.
Preparatory Training Division academic directions:

- Humanitarian sciences
Curriculum includes the following subjects:
- Russian language
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Informatics.
The Certificate (obtained upon successful passing of examinations) is accepted at all universities of the Russian Federation.

After processing your request you will receive an enrollment contract and payment details.
After confirmation of payment a foreign citizen is issued an invitation to enter the Russian Federation.
Every foreign citizen must notify the University about the arrival date (exact time and place) 5-10 days prior to actual arrival. Student will then be provided with an escort and accommodation assistance. The MEPhI dormitory costs are 450-600 rubles (6-8 US dollars) per month.
Within three working days after arrival at the place of sojourn in the Russian Federation, a foreign citizen must register in the Office for International Students (Room # G-106) and take out medical insurance (Room # G-201). The cost of medical insurance in 2021 is 8500 rubles per year.
Foreign citizen should provide the University with certified copies of educational documents (diplomas, certificates etc.), the application, medical certificate confirming the absence of HIV / AIDS and 6 photos 3x4 cm.
To obtain a student multiple-entry visa, a foreign citizen should come to Room # G-106 at least 30 days before the valid visa expires. Visa validity period is settled according to the enrolment contract. The State fees in 2021 are 1600 rubles.
Within three working days after arrival at the place of sojourn in the Russian Federation, a foreign citizen must register in the Office for International Students (Room # G-106) every time after crossing the border. Any violation of the present rules is subject to the following measures: fine or deportation.
