The objects of professional activity of graduates: nuclear installations and power plants; technologies of NPP control, diagnostics, monitoring and automation; instrumentation and control systems, safety systems, process control systems; radiation control systems, technology of their design, development, implementation and maintenance. Mathematical models for the theoretical and experimental research in the field of control and safe operation of nuclear power units, technology design and analysis of automatic uroavleniya neutron-physical and technological parameters of NPP, technology of design and construction of electronics I&C equipment, systems engineering and implementation of the NPP�s I&C and Process Control System life cycle phases.

The purpose of the program is getting by students the education that enables graduates to work successfully in areas related to research, design, creation and operation of instrumentation and control systems (I&C), process control systems (PCS) and safety operation of nuclear reactors and power plants.

Students will receive deep theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the design and analysis of modern digital control systems, control and automation systems of NPPs, methods and systems for monitoring the radiation environment and radiation control at nuclear power plants, analyze and ensure the safe operation of nuclear power plants.

The objects of professional activity of graduates: nuclear reactors, nuclear and thermal hydraulics calculations, safety justification, design, mathematical models for theoretical and experimental studies in the field of reactors, handling of nuclear materials, radioactive materials, radioactive wastes, radiation propagation and interaction with objects animate and inanimate nature, safety ensuring of nuclear industry and energy.

Conceptual development and design of new generation of nuclear reactors, participation in expert activity, the development of the theory and creation of new computing programs and experimental facilities in the field of physics of nuclear power plants, nuclear fuel cycle, safe operation NPP

 

Task: to graduate highly qualified specialists-researches able to work successfully in the activities associated with the design, analysis and evaluation of safety, economy, modern and future nuclear power plants. As a result of the development of the master's graduate program they must have sufficient set of system analytical competencies, leadership and communication qualities to work in a creative team, project management skills.

Master get a depth knowledge in the field of neutron physics and thermal hydraulic processes occurring in the reactor core, under normal operating conditions, as well as in emergency and transitional regimes.

A competent nuclear engineer can be formed in process of formal academic teaching and industry training. But it is important to recognize that neither education nor training on their own can produce the high level of competence required by the nuclear industry. It is recognized that a robust nuclear engineering course is the sum of many subjects. Master program "Nuclear reactors" consists of 7 main blocks:

1. Neutronics

This block develops the ability to create theoretical and mathematical models describing neutron-physical processes in reactors and nuclear power plants (NPP).

This block allows covers the problem of creation of the new types of nuclear fuel and tasks associated with the closure of the nuclear fuel cycle, safe management of radioactive waste.

Creation of new materials for nuclear industry and research methods of impact on their properties of ionizing radiation and neutron fluxes.

4. Thermal hydraulics

Laws of heat and mass exchange in power equipment units of nuclear power plants, requirements for heat transfer and heat removal systems, thermo-physical processes in heat exchangers. Thermodynamic principles, types and operation of steam turbines, calculation of efficiency, reliability, operation and maintenance. Methods of thermal measurement and control, conducting physical experiments to determine the thermal-hydraulic and neutronic parameters of NPP.

The objectives are to prepare the highly qualified graduates to work in the institutes and laboratories involved in the design and development of the international cosmophysical experiments as well as in the analysis and interpretation of scientific information obtained from the current experiments.

Competitive advantage: Physics-masters will get the actual scientific knowledge which is necessary to work in modern experimental physics, especially in the Space Physics experiments by working in the experimental nuclei physics and cosmophysics department and the institute of cosmophysics. Some disciplines are taught in English.

Some disciplines and research work are held at the University of Florence or at the Rome Tor Vergata University in English work for students with good academic performance.

The main peculiarity of the masters program Experimental Nuclear Physics and cosmophysics is acquiring the modern knowledge about the physics and technology studied in the course framework as well as about their application during the research work of the master. In the process of the research work the student will be offered a job for the information analysis of the already collected and still receiving data from experiments PAMELA and ARINA that are on orbit now. In additional it is possible to work with the planned experiments like Gamma400. Thus, after the graduation graduates will have an experience in the real cosmophysical experiments and will understand the experimental goals and methods to achieve them. Department 7 cooperates with many domestic universities and institutes of Russian Academy of Science and also has ties with foreign research institutes and universities in Italy, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Ukraine and Belarus.

The aim of the program is to teach masters with fundamental knowledge in the field of functional analysis, optimal control, theory of numbers. They should be capable of operating systems development, functional and logic programming. In addition, the educational program is aimed at teaching master graduates in the field of robotics, circuits design, microwave electronics, quantum cryptography and quantum computers.

Competitive advantages of the program are as follows. The educational program is aimed at teaching masters that can compete with the world leaders in the development of mathematical basis and hardware for information systems both in defense and civil sectors. In a joint international research and educational activities were held with French universities, in particular, the signing of a protocol on the results of the negotiations of joint educational programs with the University of Marseilles and the University of "Nice-Sophia Antipolis." At the moment we are working on an agreement on cooperation. On the basis of agreements between universities in the framework of the project have been developed:

  • The documents to the opening of a joint educational program (SOP) in "Strategic Management";
  • Working program of cooperation for 2015-2016 years between MEPhI and the University of Nice in Russian and English languages;
  • A project with the University of Nice SOP in Russian and English languages.

The joint training program "Strategic Management" aims to provide knowledge and competencies that enable graduates to be successful in the international arena.

The purpose of the program - training of competitive, having the latest tools of general and strategic management professionals to develop and implement business strategies in the structures of various levels of management.

The program focuses on basic and applied research aimed at the creation and implementation of high-tech developments in the field of innovative economy.

The goal of the program (brief description of the program), focused on solving problems of the industry. The purpose of the program is to train the mastership students for activities related to quantum electronics, photonics, interaction of radiation with matter, laser technologies, R&D of semiconductor laser components and devices, and applications of these devices in electronics, medicine, technology and other areas.

Competitive advantages of the program. The program is based on the close scientific cooperation between P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute and Partner Universities. Throughout the whole training period, the students attend the course �Scientific seminar: modern studies on advanced fields of science and technologies�. The course includes lectures presented by leading foreign scientists both immediately in MEPhI and via distance learning. The latter can be also routed to other Partner Universities. The courses are developed by leading researchers specialized and having wide experience in the development of semiconductor lasers and their application, both in P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute and Partner Universities.

The curriculum is organized so that the graduates obtain a wide spectrum of competences allowing them to perform the basic research and solve applied problems in the fields of laser physics, physics of semiconductors, solid state, plasma, fast processes, interaction of radiation with matter, control systems and automatic control.

Brief description of the curriculum (the features and benefits).

The first year of education is conducted at MEPhI, when the main courses of the FGOS3 Nuclear physics and technologies are taught, as well as the specialty courses. Large attention is devoted to improve the knowledge of English language for subsequent passing the TOEFL exams.

The second year includes both training at MEPhI and at the Partner University. The curriculum is composed in such a way that students can vary their education trajectory, take their courses from either MEPhI or the Partner University, as well as vary their study at the Partner University from one to two semesters.

The curriculum includes the distance learning courses translated from MEPhI or the Partner University.

The base for industrial and/or scientific practice. The bases for the industrial and scientific practices are the Partner Universities, P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (LPI RAS), NPP "Inject" (Izhevsk, Russia), and other institutions and laboratories of RAS performing research in the same field in collaboration with European and American universities and scientific companies.

The specialty courses are subdivided to the following modules:

1) Semiconductor lasers, with the course of the same title as well as High-power single diode lasers, Quantum cascade lasers, Semiconductor disk lasers � 9 credits.

2) Heterostructure techology: Physics of the heterostructures, Technology of the heterostructure growth, Physical fundamentals of the semiconductor laser technology � 10 credits.

3) Interaction of radiation with matter, with the course of the same name, plus Physical optics, Modern optics, Modern photonics, Theoretical quantum electronics, Fiber optics and fiber lasers, Integrated optics, Solid-state lasers with diode pumping � 22 credits.

4) Scientific & research practice: Research practice, Scientific-industrial practice, Pre-dissertation practice 11 credits.

1. Practical training is carried out in the weeks of theoretical training in 4 semester.
