International applicants planning to enter the Russian Federation to take entrance examinations at MEPhI must arrange their entry visa independently.

International applicants admitted under the Russian Government quota (state-funded scholarships) receive a visa based on an invitation issued by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

International applicants who successfully pass entrance examinations and are officially enrolled at MEPhI receive a student visa based on an invitation issued by MEPhI.
To obtain an invitation letter after enrollment, students should contact the academic office of their Institute after the enrollment order is published. Information about enrollment orders is available on the MEPhI Admission website:

Migration Registration for International Applicants
Applicants from Visa Countries
International applicants entering Russia with a visa to take entrance examinations at MEPhI must indicate the purpose of visit in the migration card according to the information stated in their visa.
Migration registration for the examination period must be completed independently at the local office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs at the place of residence, or by the organization/person that issued the invitation.
After completing entrance examinations, applicants from visa countries must leave the Russian Federation.
Applicants holding a valid student visa issued by another Russian university and valid migration registration may remain in Russia.
Applicants from Visa-Free Countries
International applicants entering Russia under a visa-free regime to take entrance examinations at MEPhI must complete migration registration at the local office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs at their place of residence.
Applicants from visa-free countries may remain in Russia after entrance examinations provided that they have valid migration registration.
