As the experts of the state “5-100” project aimed at improving of the international competitiveness of the universities have noted, this year 5 Russian universities (vs. 3 in July, 2015) are among top-1000 of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities: NSU is the 609^th, MEPhI is the 854^th, MIPT is 965^th, Ural Federal University is in the 973^rd position and ITMO University being the 996^th.

The Webometrics that include 25 000 universities all over the world publish their ratings twice a year, in the end of January and in the end of July. The ranking is a global indicator of the university research in the Internet. Its methodology is based on 4 indicators: the quantity of references from other sources, the size of the web-site (the quantity of pages indexed by Google), academic quality (the number of quotations of scientific publications based on the analysis by SCImago) and openness (the quantity of full texts indexed by Google on the site).
