MEPhI experts discuss topical issues of development of Russian education

On 14-16 December 2015 a conference “State of historical education in higher educational institutions of Russia” and the Founding Congress of the “Association of history teachers from higher educational institutions of Russia” has been held in the Moscow region.

The conference was attended by representatives of MEPhI: member of the RF Public chamber, head of the MEPhI Department “Pedagogy and methods for science education” L.N. Dukhanina, the MEPhI Vice-rector for Educational and Methodical Affairs E.B. Vesna, Director of the Centre for nuclear medicine and Deputy scientific head of the interdepartmental Laboratory of experimental nuclear physics of MEPhI, Doctor of Physico-Mathematical Sciences, Professor A.I. Bolozdynya, Deputy head of the Department of History, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor V.A. Makedonskaya.

History teachers of Russian universities have formed the Association. Opening the conference, L.N. Dukhanina said that the decision to establish the “Association of history teachers from higher educational institutions of Russia” was taken unanimously at the Founding Congress on the 15th of November 2015. “The task of the Association is to discuss topical issues of development of Russian education, including the quality of textbooks, as well as to create an effective platform for interaction with the Ministry of Education and Science”, said L. N. Dukhanina. According to her, members of the Association intend to focus on the problems of teaching history in universities, including technical one, as well as on the quality of the curricula and workload of teachers. The Association intends to actively cooperate with the Public chamber of the Russian Federation and different non-profit organizations.

The conference and the Founding Congress were held with the direct support and participation of the Deputy Chief of Department of the President of the Russian Federation on public projects, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor O.Yu. Vasilyeva, who emphasized importance of the Association of history teachers for the consolidation of the professional community and the development of Russian education.
