The project “Social Navigator” from the news group “Russia today” with the participation of the Center for the study of the labor market has presented the first national “Rank of universities’ demand in Russian Federation”. Ranking approach takes into account three main characteristics: demand for graduates from the real sector of the economy, demand for design, development and consulting provision of economy and academic productivity of research activities.

The rating includes 463 Universities from 80 regions of the Russian Federation. To ensure proper comparison between different types of educational organizations, experts created groups of universities according their areas of training: classical universities (87), engineering universities (140), agricultural universities (56), management (61), humanitarian universities (72) and medical universities (47).

Once again National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI” has confirmed the high status of the leader of engineering education, taking the 1st place among Russian engineering universities. The top five includes: ITMO University (2nd place), LETI (3rd place), MIPT (4th place), MISIS (5th place).

MEPhI demonstrated impressive results in “i-index” – citation of employees’ works (29). According to a study it is the highest result among engineering universities.

According to experts MEPhI is one of the most successful universities in demand from employers for graduates, which is evidenced by high “proportion of graduates who received a referral to employment” (88,8%).

MEPhI also has quite high indicator for the share of revenues from the commercialization of intellectual products – 42.5% (16% – the average for engineering schools).

According to the rector of MEPhI Mikhail Strikhanov, the new rating, which results were obtained on the basis of open sources of information, has its own special niche, which does not contradict the possibility of its further improvement. For example, there could be additional evaluation criteria such as results of state exams or measuring of graduates’ success.

As for MEPhI success in the ranking, the rector noted that the result became possible thanks to many years of targeted effort, started in 2008 with the establishment of the National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI”, and the task to become closer to the employer.
