Currently domestic technologies and developments based on neural networks have become an integral part of not only specialists’ instrumentation, but also of people's everyday live, said participants of the video bridge Moscow–Tomsk–Kaliningrad on “In search of artificial intelligence: neural networks and models of living systems”.

Professor of the MEPhI Department “Managing intelligent systems” Sergey Kulik told about the research in application of neural networks in forensic science, handwriting examination, which is required, for example in case of suspicion of forgery.

“Experts have to do a lot of research to establish the authenticity of a record. We have tried to automate their work and created an automated workplace for the forensic-expert in handwriting, which allows to predict who wrote the document, the age and sex of this person with the use of neural networks even having one letter”, he explained.

Sergey Kulik also reported on research in drawing a psychological portrait of a person on the basis of characteristics of his handwriting that are conducted in MEPhI in cooperation with specialists from the RAS Institute of Psychology.

“This task is quite complex. We started from a forensic handwriting examination, formulated a set of characteristics that allow the expert to make decisions, and built a neural network. Unlike the expert-graphologist, our neural network can indicate the accuracy of its assessment”, — said the expert.
