30.10.2015

On October 28 the first festival “Day of Russian-Turkish friendship” has passed in the MEPhI Assembly Hall in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Immediately it became a big event in the cultural life of the University.

The holiday, designed to unite students regardless of their nationality, was organized and successfully held by the International friendship Club “Unity MEPhI” with the active support of the company JSC “Akkuyu Nuclear”.

It is worthy to note that numerous participants included not only Russian and Turkish students, but also youth from Jordan, Palestine, Vietnam and other countries. Once again it confirmed that MEPhI students, regardless of nationality, are part of the same community, ready to communicate, make friends, and come to mutual understanding.

Opening the festival, timed to the Day of National sovereignty of Turkey, participants were welcomed by the Manager of student program JSC Akkuyu Nuclear Anna Chekeres. She noted that training of Turkish students in MEPhI was a part of the international project of the State Corporation “Rosatom” on construction of Turkey's first nuclear power plant. She expressed confidence that future specialists would continue to successfully develop nuclear power in their native country.

Representative of the Akkuyu Nuclear noted importance and necessity of international activities for cultural development of students and said that such holidays, which allow students to know each other, were the visiting card of the University.

Also the Dean of Physical-Technical Faculty, Georgy Tikhomirov welcomed guests and participants of the festival. Turkish students are educated exactly at this Faculty and after its graduation will work in one of the key foreign projects of Rosatom.

After the official part guests enjoyed a festive, bright and colorful action, prepared jointly by Turkish and Russian students. Poems and songs, music and dances, performed on the stage, were alternated with cheerful competitions and prize drawing. Lively Turkish motifs left no one indifferent, and Assembly hall actively supported the artists with load applause.

At the end of the holiday there was held the ceremony of awarding participants with diplomas, after which everyone was invited to taste Turkish cuisine.

“Day of the Russian-Turkish friendship” ended, but the friendship will never end.
