The official website of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation has reported that only four Russian universities got in the objective Ranking of U.S. News & World Report, two of which, including MEPhI, is the leading universities of the 5-100 Project.
To enter U.S. News & World Report, the University should be in the TOP-200 in an Academic Reputation Survey, conducted annually by Thomson Reuters. The second criterion is the number of publications in scientific journals indexed in the Web of Science database over the five-year period.
This year Russian universities are represented in the subject ranking for physics as follows: Lomonosov Moscow State University managed to be among the leaders having the 23rd position, National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI” – on the 127th place, Novosibirsk National Research State University – 170th, St. Petersburg State University – 241th.
Also the National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI” takes the 20th place in the world in terms of publications in international co-authorship.
U.S. News Best Global Universities Ranking reflects a reputation in the scientific community, publication activity (it separately accounts books and conference papers), citation (4 indicators dedicated to it), joint research with foreign scientists, awarding academic degrees and other factors; in total it uses 12 indicators. Data for calculation of indicators are taken from InCites – an online tool for evaluation and comparison of scientific organizations and research based on scientometric database Web of Science. Each University has a profile page on usnews.com which presents all 12 indicators.
