MEPhI visited by representatives of Jordan Atomic Energy Commission

On October 15, MEPhI has received a delegation fr om Jordan, which consisted of the Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) Khaled Toukan, Commissioner of JAEC Samer Kahook and the Vice Chairman of the JAEC Kamal Araj. The meeting of the MEPhI rector M.N. Strikhanov with high guests was attended by representatives of Rosatom and heads of relevant units of the University involved in the education of Jordanian students. The meeting was aimed to discuss expansion of cooperation in the field of training of future specialists for the Jordan nuclear industry on the basis of MEPhI as a center of management of the world's nuclear knowledge.

In his speech, Khaled Toukan mentioned that he had visited the University 6 years ago and was glad to come back again. The Chairman of the Commission has already noted high level of ongoing research and development at MEPhI during the first visit. Also he thanked the Russian government for grants which enable foreign students to get education in “nuclear University”: “It is a privilege for us to teach students at MEPhI, as it is the most prestigious University in Russia for training specialists in the field of nuclear technologies”, he said. The Head of JAEC also noted that Jordan selected only the best students for study at MEPhI. They acquire knowledge using the latest technology and upon graduation become multi-discipline specialists in the nuclear field.

Taking into account many years' experience, parties considered the mechanism of University’s participation in the selection of Jordanian students to study in Russia. During the meeting it was agreed that the Jordanian side would present 3-year curriculum. In addition, in connection with the planning launch of the first research reactor in Jordan the next year, it was suggested that its operators would undergo training in MEPhI.

Participants also discussed issues associated with training programs for Jordanian students, increase of the number of practical lessons, including the opportunity for practical training directly at nuclear power plants of the State Corporation “Rosatom”, and also spoke with students and postgraduates from Jordan on various topical issues. Future Arab power engineers shared their experiences of student life and impressions of Moscow with the delegates.

Following the visit, the sides agreed to organize the next meeting in the summer of 2016.

After the official part guests visited the Department № 2 “Automatics”, wh ere their attention was caught by the Functional-analytical simulator of the NPP with VVER-1000 reactor, and the Nano-center MEPhI. The head of the Jordanian nuclear industry noted the high level of educational and scientific development at MEPhI.
