Cooperation between FAIR and NICA to open new opportunities for MEPhI students and postgraduates
05.10.2015

On October 1-2 MEPhI has held an international conference “Challenges and opportunities at FAIR and NICA”. The main purpose of this scientific meeting was to define possibilities of participation of MEPhI students and postgraduates in the most important international research projects.

Today large-scale research projects FAIR (Darmstadt, Germany) and NICA (Dubna, Russia) attract great attention of the scientific community; the best specialists of the world contribute their ideas, experience and intelligence to projects. Despite the fact that Russian scientists play a major role in the implementation of mega-science programs in large international projects, today there is a certain deficit in the inflow of young, talented and active specialists.

The forum brought together leading academics and key specialists of the FAIR project, professors of European universities of Germany and Sweden – all those who are extremely interested in close cooperation with MEPhI. Foreign scientists came to share their knowledge and experience with colleagues and to try to attract postgraduate and undergraduate students of MEPhI to actively participate in the project.

A welcoming speech to the participants of the conference was addressed by the co-Director of the FAIR-Russia Research Center Professor Hans Gutbrod, FAIR Scientific Director, MEPhI Professor Boris Sharkov, Deputy Director of the Unit for Innovation Management of the State Corporation “Rosatom” Oleg Patarakin.
The conference continued with reports made by foreign experts and specialists from MEPhI in the framework of parallel sessions on the following areas: NUSTAR Physics, Material Science, Accelerator Physics, Phlasma Physics, Atomic Physics, PANDA Physics, HADES, Graduate school and its programs.
