On August 31, 2015 the Cultural center ZIL has held an annual meeting of the MEPhI faculty, dedicated to the beginning of the new academic year.
The tone of the meeting was set by speech of distinguished guests, among whom there were: the General Director of the Russian Science Foundation Alexander Khlunov, Deputy General Director of the State Corporation “Rosatom” Vyacheslav Pershukov, Director of the Department for development of scientific and industrial base of nuclear weapons complex of the SC “Rosatom” Sergey Vlasov, Deputy Director of the Federal Financial Monitoring Service Vladimir Glotov, Deputy General Director for strategic development and implementation of state programs of JSC “Ruselectronics” Alexander Brykin, Director of Industrial Policy Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission Vladimir Maltsev.
The guests highly appreciated the contribution of the MEPhI in personnel training and its tireless striving for further improvement of the training system. They noted how MEPhI successfully copes not only with training of successful professionals, but also with the task to educate worthy members of the society.
The report of the rector was the main part of the meeting.
At first M.N. Strikhanov emphasized the most important events of the past year which have set the vector of MEPhI development. It includes participation of the University in numerous international conferences in various areas of activity; signing of cooperation agreements with several international universities on the exchange of students and postgraduates and on the development of joint educational programs; the agreement between the MEPhI and the IAEA on cooperation in the nuclear field; admission of MEPhI as a participant of experiments in collaborations NA61/Shine and CMS at CERN; the number of international student Olympiads and competitions and more.
The rector also presented results of a number of ratings where MEPhI is at high places.
Great attention in the summary report was given to the results of the admission campaign. The University has significantly strengthened its positions. The rector noted that in 2015 the University had gained even stronger students: 50% of applicants had a certificate with honors, 30% were winners of Olympiads. He also noted a significant increase in points of the Uniform State Exam and a significant increase of competition for places in nuclear specialities.
In conclusion, M.N. Strikhanov expressed optimism about the further development of the University. “Despite the complexity of tasks, I am sure, we are in for a very interesting and fruitful experience, and the University will confirm its leadership”, the rector said.
The meeting was continued with a speech of a Vice-rector on Educational and Methodical Affairs Elena Vesna, who showed results of the University’s readiness for the upcoming state accreditation.
The leader of the research group of the project “National ranking of Universities “Interfax” – “Echo of Moscow” Alexey Chaplygin concluded the event. He presented the results of a recent survey titled “University of a dream”.
Senior students taking the exam in physics took part in the survey, which was devoted to the interest of potential students in a particular University – place, where they wish to continue their education. The results of the survey showed that MEPhI is in the top five of Russian universities which seniors consider as a start of their academic and professional career.
