Mikhail Strikhanov: Demand for engineering and technical professions to grow
03.09.2015

The interest of applicants in engineering and technical professions is growing. In particular, it is showed by a marked increase in the average score of the Unified State Exam, required for admission to universities in the country. So, for example, a serious increase is noted by the rector of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI Mikhail Strikhanov. In comments to journalists, he said that the previous year at the Faculty connected with nuclear power the average score was 78. In 2015 this figure increased up to 86 points.

“It is due to the fact that parents orient children to the future. To the fact that one day today's students will start to work in the production area, because there is an excess of specialists in Humanities and managers in our country. I am sure, the demand for engineering and technical professions will grow”, the rector said.

However, Mikhail Strikhanov noted the lack of progress in the number of students who pass the exam in physics. “It is our headache. This year it is only 15% in the country. And it's a failure. We must reach 30-35%, and only then we will have normal industrial society”, he said.

According to him a certain work in this direction is conducted through the regional administration, which stimulates development of this science.

“For example, it is implemented in the Urals region, where people understand the strategy of industrial development of the region. We need to spread this idea, to convince the public that if we want to get away from oil economy, we must have a strong engineering school”, Mikhail Strikhanov added.
