Turkish students have visited the Istanbul Technical University (ITU), where they learned about operation principles of a nuclear research reactor TRIGA Mark-II. These students are studying at the National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI” on the program of specialists’ preparation for work at the NPP “Akkuyu”.
During the visit students talked with the Head of the Department “Energy and technologies” of Institute of Energy at ITU, doctor of Sciences, Professor Uner Colak. They told him about life in Russia and a learning process in the MEPhI. Then guys attended a presentation of the Professor on the topic: “Introduction to nuclear energy and global nuclear technology”. Then future Turkish nuclear engineers were divided into two groups and had a tour around a building of a research reactor, familiarized with principles of it work and conducting research.

According to an intergovernmental agreement signed on the 12th of May 2010 between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Turkey, Turkish students are studying in Russian universities under the program of specialists’ preparation for nuclear energy. Currently the educational program of JSC Akkuyu Nuclear unites about 250 Turkish students who had previously studied at Engineering Faculties and Faculties of Natural Sciences of various universities in Turkey. Now they are studying at the National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI”. In 2015 80 students from Turkey will join the program. 50 of them will be trained in the MEPhI in Moscow, the other 30 – in St.Petersburg Polytechnic University.
