Scientific leader of RFNC-VNIIEF, head of a MEPhI Department № 26 “Electronic measuring systems”, academician R.I. Ilkaev and his first Deputy, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences V.P. Neznamov, who heads Academic Council in Sarov branch of MEPhI, have shared information about the world record of specialists from nuclear center and other achievements of scientists and engineers in the nuclear industry.
Employees of RFNC-VNIIEF, many of which combine basic research activities with educational work in MEPhI, conduct training sessions, workshops and seminars, attracting students to participate in scientific work. They have set a world record – compress plasma of helium and deuterium at extremely high pressures up to 50 million atmospheres. RAS materials emphasize that “such states of plasma are available only for researchers from VNIIEF and exceed the world level”. Information about achievements of Sarov scientists and engineers was in the report of the RAS President, academician V.E. Fortov at the General meeting of academicians in the spring 2015.
Another one latest achievement of Sarov nuclear center relates to laser technology. RFNC-VNIIEF created a kilowatt-level laser on diode-pumped steam of cesium, efficiency of which is almost 50%. Also they created a calculation model of the new laser, which describes results of its work. “Results of experiments surpass existing results of laboratories around world in the reached power level” – it is told in RAS materials.
Research in this area attracts young scientists, including graduates of Sarov Physical-Technical Institute MEPhI. Many of them have scientific publications; some of them have already defended their dissertations. According to R.I. Ilkaev, Nuclear center in Sarov is a combination of wisdom and youth. “Now our Institute is among Russian leaders in the number of young people, – says academician. – We wish the best young professionals to join us”.
Every year about one hundred graduates of Sarov branch of MEPhI find employment at the Russian Federal Nuclear center “VNIIEF”, becoming members of its institutes, research departments, laboratories and design bureaus. Many of them, excelling in a good level of training and skills of scientific work, become highly qualified specialists, win competitions on the title of “Best young specialist of RFNC-VNIIEF” and “Best young scientist of RFNC-VNIIEF”.
