MEPhI improves its position in international ranking of universities websites Webometrics

According to the results of the updated Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, published August 1, 2015, MEPhI is on the 4th place among Russian universities (814th place among world universities), improving its results by 2 positions compared with the beginning of 2015. Among universities participating in the Project 5-100 MEPhI is on the 2nd place.

Webometrics analyzes representation of the University in the web-space and allows to evaluate research achievements of universities in an indirect way through a comparison of their Internet sites. In total global ranking 2015 includes more than 20 thousand universities of the world. Placement of Russian universities is the following: the first place – Lomonosov Moscow State University, the second – St. Petersburg State University, the third – Novosibirsk State University, the fourth – MEPhI.

Webometrics ranking, calculated by research group Cybermetrics, which is a part of the National Research Council of Spain, is a global indicator of research activity of universities on the Internet. It takes into account the following key parameters of University websites:

Presence: number of pages found by search engines such as Google (except pdf files).

Impact: quality of the site content through a “virtual referendum”, counting the number of unique external links to the resource (Backlinks) and the number of Referring domains.

Openness: number of pdf files in open access based on data of search engines such as Google.

Excellence: articles included in the 10% most cited publications in respective areas of research according to Scimago.
