Admissions have started in Russian universities; yesterday's schoolchildren received certificates of secondary education and they are in a hurry to become students. Now they need to take one of the most important decisions that will largely determine their future life – to choose a University for further education and careers.

Most often a number of universities offer the same specialties, and students need to decide which University to choose. Which one is better in quality of education, in success of its graduates? Someone relies on reviews on the Internet, someone – on the opinion of parents and friends. But there is no doubt that the best way is to rely on assessments of professionals.

The Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation annually conducts effectiveness monitoring of Russian universities, during which it verifies the most important criteria of their activities. This year a fundamentally new monitoring system was started, which includes criteria for employment of graduates.

Thus, in 2015 for the first time Russian entrants will be able not only to assess relevance and prestige of universities, but also to see a clear picture of demand for their graduates in the labour market.

It is encouraging to note that according to results of the latest research MEPhI steadily overcame thresholds of all monitoring indicators that one more time confirmed University’s status of the leader of Russian engineering education.

This year higher educational institutions were evaluated by seven criteria: educational activity, research activity, international activity, financial and economic activity, salary of faculty and staff, employment, additional indicators of educational organizations.

MEPhI has demonstrated impressive results in “research activity”. Experts took into account the number of publications and their citations indexes in Russian and international databases Web of Science, Scopus, Russian Science Citation Index as well as the volume of R&D, number of received grants, number of scientific journals published at the University, etc. By this criterion, MEPhI has exceeded the required threshold 17folds!

For applicants it means that research is an integral part of training in MEPhI – starting from first years students actively participate in scientific conferences and workshops, apprenticeships and internships in the world's leading universities and research centers.

Education in MEPhI is considered prestigious among foreign youth as well. It is proved by the fact that students come to the University from many different countries – Turkey, Jordan, Vietnam, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Algeria and others. International cooperation is developing as well – today MEPhI has about 80 foreign partner universities with which there are joint projects in the field of science and education.

In accordance with monitoring data a key indicator “international activity” is almost two times higher than a minimum requirement for universities. Moreover, in comparison with last year this indicator increased by 30%, indicating good dynamics of the University.

In general the University has achieved superiority in three of seven indicators. Comparative analysis of monitoring results shows absolute MEPhI leadership among participants of the Project 5-100.
