MEPhI admitted into Association of international rankings IREG Observatory

On June 11-12 the VII forum of IREG Observatory (IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence) has been held in Denmark in Aalborg. The General Assembly unanimously admitted MEPhI into the permanent members of the international expert group.

IREG Observatory, which started its activity in 2002, aims to strengthen public awareness and understanding of range of issues related to university rankings and academic excellence. Currently IREG is comprised of 41 organizations, including leading publishers of universities ratings and a number of universities. Among others there are:

  • QS Intelligence Unit (publisher of global rankings of universities QS);
  • US News & World Report;
  • Shanghai Consultancy (ARWU publisher, also known as Shanghai ranking);
  • Сenter for Higher Education (CHE) – one of the publishers of U-Multirank and a publisher of a German CHE University ranking;
  • Lomonosov Moscow State University;
  • Saint Petersburg State University.

The admission of MEPhI to IREG demonstrates international recognition of a global competitiveness of the University, confirmed by high positions in leading global and national rankings of universities:

in global:

  • 13-th place in THE BRICS & Emerging Economies;
  • Top-100 in THE “Natural Sciences”;
  • Top-100 in QS “Physics and astronomy”;

in national:

  • 2nd place in a ranking of an international information group “Interfax & Echo of Moscow”;
  • 3rd place in the rating of a RAEX Agency (“Expert RA”).
