MEPhI holds regional stage of “IT-breakthrough” contest

On April 15 MEPhI has held a regional stage of the All-Russian contest of breakthrough projects in the field of IT-technologies “IT-breakthrough”. The event was attended by representatives of Russian universities and enterprises of the real sector of economy.

It was not the first time when National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI” hosted the qualifying round of the competition. Last year two MEPhI projects were awarded prizes in categories “Medical and biological IT” and “IT security”, and its authors participated in the awarding ceremony in the office of the Rostec Corporation.

In the framework of the regional stage students, postgraduates and young employees from MEPhI submitted more than 10 projects to the contest in categories “IT in electronics”, “IT-security”, “IT in medicine” and “IT in education”.

Project evaluation was performed by the jury chaired by the Deputy Director General of Ruselectronics Arseny Brykin. Addressing the participants, he said that Ruselectronics enterprises had a large need for new innovation projects and these needs were growing from year to year. So there was an interest in talented qualified specialists and their scientific developments. “MEPhI is extremely active in all categories of the competition”, said Arseniy Brykin. “Last year MEPhI was short of only one contest work that to become the undisputed leader in the number of submitted works. But the University was ahead of other competitors in the number of winners”.

At this stage the expert jury selected three best innovative projects of young scientists from MEPhI. The winners of the regional stage of “IT-Breakthrough” are:

Sergey Kladko, postgraduate student of the Department №2. He presented the project in the nomination “IT in electronics” – “HANDLEE – bracelet for the exchange of contact information through a simple handshake, with the systematization of contacts on the mobile phone of the user”.

Ilya Kusakin, engineer from the Faculty “Cybernetics and Information Security”. The topic of his project in the nomination “IT in electronics” is “Development of a system for determining the level of metro ridership with automatic stationary notification”.

Nikolay Kalintsev is an employee of the Engineering Science Center MEPhI. He presented the project in the category “IT security” – “Development of experimental model of hardware-software complex of information security for automotive on-Board systems – AutoVisor”.

The event ended with diplomas awarding to the participants of the regional stage. Names of the finalists will be announced in late April after qualifying rounds and external evaluation of works by the Federal Commission.

The contest “IT-Breakthrough” is held annually since 2010 by the holding company Ruselectronics together with Softline Company under the auspices of the Russian political party “United Russia”. It is aimed at the formation of the intellectual potential of young specialists in the field of information technologies. Projects are evaluated in six main categories: “IT in electronics”, “IT-security”, “IT in medicine”, “IT in education”, “IT in energy sector” and “Telecom Idea – best mobile application”. This year the prize fund is 1.5 million rubles. The winner will have an opportunity to implement his project based at enterprises of the holding company Ruselectronics.
