On January 18 Physico-Technical Faculty has continued a traditional series of Faculties’ Open Days.
Speaking to seniors, who came that day with parents in MEPhI, acting Dean of the Faculty G.V.Tikhomirov told about the main stages of reforming the system of higher education in Russia in 2006-2014. As a result of all these changes MEPhI, as a part of 15 leading national universities, has an ability to compete with world universities and confidently takes worthy positions in various rankings.
G.V.Tikhomirov briefly told about the history of the Faculty and then elaborated on the current life of the University, which is a geographically distributed scientific and educational holding. It unites all schools in presence regions of the State Corporation “Rosatom” and prepares staff for nuclear industry.
Speaking about the peculiarities of the Physico-Technical Faculty, its head said that training is conducted with an emphasis on the physical and mathematical training and development of engineering thinking. Students of the Faculty are actively involved in research activities and upon completion of their studies get an interesting job and career opportunities. Traditional employers of graduates are enterprises of the SC “Rosatom”, as well as National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” and RAS Institutes.
The next speaker was the executive secretary of MEPhI admission committee V.I.Skrytny, who summed up the campaign-2014 and explained changes in admission to the University in 2015.
Head of a Studies section of Military arts division S.I.Mezhuev spoke about admission conditions in this division. He noted that its graduates were in good standing in scientific companies, established by the Russian Federation Ministry of Defense, and were in demand in the defense industry.
During the Open Day Faculty’s representatives answered many questions of future entrants and their parents, conducted tours around departments and laboratories. Everyone could test their knowledge of physics, taking part in the Kurchatov Olympiad.
In addition, management of the Physico-Technical Faculty decided to carry out a special introductory event for those students who intend to continue their studies in the master's program.
For all who want to enter the Master’s degree program there was presented the following schedule of activities:
• Preparation of preliminary list of candidates from Faculty departments – before May 1, 2015;
• Open Day of the MEPhI Magistracy – April 2015;
• Interviews – from April to August 2015;
• Enrolment – 20-25 August 2015.
