All-Russian competition of pupils’ scientific works “Junior-2015”

From 31 January to 1 February 2015 MEPhI has successfully hosted the final of the All-Russian competition of pupils’ scientific works “Junior”. The contest was organized by MEPhI and State Corporation for Atomic Energy “Rosatom”. Traditional and long-term sponsor of the competition is a manufacturer of microprocessors – Intel Corporation. Another sponsor was a well-known manufacturer of accounting software – 1C Company.

More than 500 projects in five sections – Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy, Biology and Ecology, Computer science, Chemistry – were submitted on the qualifying stage of “Junior”. Geography of participants covered the whole Russia – from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok. Especially a lot of works came from St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Yeysk (Krasnodar region), Zelenogorsk (Krasnoyarsk region), Crimea and Moscow. This year the competition received international attention as well: qualifying stage was attended by students from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Ukraine (Lugansk region).

Following the results of the qualification the jury admitted 205 projects to the final. The most of them were in the section of Physics and Astronomy – 54 projects.

“Junior” jury included representatives of many leading Moscow universities: MEPhI, MSU, MIPT, MSTU. This year, for the first time representatives of St. Petersburg university – LETI – were also in the jury.

In addition to the main jury there were two more judges panels – of youth, which included undergraduate and postgraduate students from MEPhI and HCC RAS (the majority of the arbitrators had taken part in the “Junior” themselves, and some of them were even winners), and 1C jury. Both of them determined the winners of the competition on their own nominations.

During the competition day pupils participated in two striking events – protect their projects and took part in the subject Olympiad. According to the results of competitions the jury determined the winners – 65 students from different cities of Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.

We should note unconditional success of team members from the MEPhI Pre-university: ten winners of the competition were students of the Lyceum №1511! And several students deserve special congratulations – Alexander Filatkin and Vladimir Bocharov, who joined the “Junior” team, which will represent Russia at the Intel ISEF.
