"Students’ Day -2015" in MEPhI

From 22 to 24 January celebration of the Russian Students’ Day has taken place in MEPhI. For three days recreational cultural and sporting events took place at various venues; everyone could take part in competitions, games, lotteries and master classes.

One of the main events of the celebration was the awarding ceremony of the 100 best students of the MEPhI. High level of academic achievement, science, sports and social activities – these were the criteria by which the special Committee had evaluated the best of the best. It is worth noting that the competition was held for the first time in the University, however, it immediately has laid foundation for a new intellectual tradition!

The solemn celebration of the best students was followed by a colorful show. It was clearly seen that students were well prepared for this day and presented their best items: poems, songs, theatrical sketches. The public were entertained by a MEPhI Male academic choir, vocal studio “Quanto di Stella”, the Eighth creative association of the MEPhI and invited musicians from children's music school named after Richter. But perhaps the most tumultuous applause was given to the girls’ orchestra of the Moscow cadet music school, which performed jazz and folk songs. A lot of fun quizzes and competitions were organized for all students. The day ended with disco.

On January 23, the Physicotechnical Faculty held a Festival of cultures of MEPhI nations for the first time in the history of the University. It was organized with the aim of strengthening international relations of students from different countries. Currently, Moscow site of MEPhI enrolls over 300 students from 28 countries. The guys from Turkey, Armenia and Belarus showed musical and dance numbers, reflecting the full flavor of their national culture. The highlight of the Festival was tasting of national dishes prepared by students. Besides, everyone could take part in the national games and competitions.

During the Festival of nations’ cultures foreign students of the Physicotechnical faculty were awarded for contribution to development of international cooperation. Acting Dean G.V.Tikhomirov noted that presence of foreign students in the MEPhI is an important indicator of quality and effectiveness of educational activities of the University, recognition of its prestige at national and international levels.

The celebration of the Students’ Day ended on the 24th of January on the territory of the Museum-reserve “Kolomenskoye” near the Palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich in the vicinity of the University. There students watched a theatrical performance “Russian winter”. Also guys with great pleasure took part in a fun winter amusements and various sports competitions.
