MEPhI hosts international session-conference on physics of fundamental interactions
25.11.2014

On November 17-21 MEPhI has hosted an international session-conference of the Nuclear Physics Section of the Physical Sciences Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences “Physics of fundamental interactions”. It was attended by 329 people from 36 organizations: academic and industrial institutions, universities and other organisations, and 9 foreign scientists from 8 countries (Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland, Ukraine).

It was the second such session-conference of Nuclear Physics Section conducted at the MEPhI (the first took place in 2012). In view of its success, the Office of the RAS Nuclear Physics Section supported the proposal to conduct this session in the MEPhI. Topics of the conference covered a wide range of problems associated with the fundamental studies of interactions among elementary particles, atomic nuclei and cosmic rays of high and ultrahigh energies, as well as problems of gravitation, cosmology, dark matter and dark energy.

In the framework of the session-conference there were six plenary sessions, where 22 papers were presented. There were 11 sections: “LHC results”, “Physics of soft matter”, “Electroweak interactions”, “Electromagnetic interaction”, “Nucleus-Nucleus interactions of high energies”, “Heavy ions”, “Theory”, “Neutrino”, “Cosmic rays and astrophysics”, “Gravitation and cosmology”, “Detectors and research methods” and the Symposium “Quarkonium”. In total 212 reports were presented. The program also included a seminar in memory of B.A. Dolgoshein, roundtable on nucleus-nucleus interactions and workshops.

Thanks to this session-conference in the MEPhI, students and postgraduates had the opportunity to take part in sessions and discuss particular issues.
