From 20 to 21 October National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI” was visited by the Japanese delegation from the Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT) – Professor Hiroshi Sagara, associate Professor Hiroshi Akatsuka and three senior students of master's programs. Visit of Japanese colleagues was organized by the staff of the Department №5 “Theoretical and experimental physics of nuclear reactors”.
MEPhI and TIT have been conducting joint researches since 1993. Last year the parties entered into a new Agreement in order to strengthen ties in the field of education and academic research. Under this Agreement they agreed to conduct joint researches and exchange of faculty and students to conduct research works and obtain new knowledge, to participate in joint programmes. On the part of Japan the cooperation programme is led by TIT Professor Saito Masaki.
A peculiarity of meeting was that undergraduate and graduate students from both sides participated in the discussion for the first time. Young scientists from TIT and MEPhI told about their research, presented visible achievements in various fields of science.
During the meeting there was a constructive exchange of views on prospects for cooperation between the two large engineering universities. Praising the current results of joint work, the participants of the meeting noted that there are other possibilities for expanding cooperation between universities. Special emphasis was placed on development of academic mobility between universities and the creation of joint educational programs. At this stage of the partnership the parties also agreed to begin a program of student exchanges, the number of joint educational programs, organize short-term training for Japanese students in laboratories of the MEPhI, to conduct joint scientific seminars and conferences in the near future.
