Moscow pupils take challenge of cyber security of industrial facilities

September 20, 2014 was a significant day for 348 students from 86 schools in Moscow: for the first time in Russia the City open school competition “Computer security for users and industrial facilities” was held in the Lyceum № 1511 of the MEPhI under the patronage of Eugene Kaspersky.

Cybercrime is a global problem, which poses threat to the strategically important objects of different states, different types of businesses, and, of course, to the citizens. It’s necessary to possess professional knowledge and a high level of intelligence that to resist cybercrime. Kaspersky lab has always actively supported the youth in their efforts to meet these criteria in the fight against cybercrime.

Participants of the competition received an invitation to enroll in MEPhI on the Faculty “КиБ” after schools and lyceums. This Faculty trains highly qualified specialists in information security, which are now required in all areas, especially in the areas of ensuring safe operation of nuclear industry and other systems and facilities, disaster stability of which determines technogeneous and ecological safety of the country.

Tasks of the competition aroused great interest among the participants. After completion of the event pupils continued discussion, debate, exchange of opinions for a long time.

On the 26th of September there will be a review of the tasks and the ceremony of awarding the winners and medalists. They will have an excursion to Kaspersky Lab, where pupils will listen to interesting lectures and meet experts on cybersecurity. After the awarding ceremony there will be held a simulation game – protection of industrial systems Kaspersky Industrial Protection Simulation (KIPS).
