On September, 16 the British international consulting Agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released QS World University Rankings 2014/15 – a ranking of the best universities in the world. There are 863 educational institutions in its full version, including 21 Russian Universities, which is three more than last year.
The number of Russian universities participating in the world rankings has increased by three universities. For the first time it includes the National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI”, which immediately got into the group 481-490. Before that, the University participated only in the regional QS rankings.
Authors of the rating used six criteria: credibility in an academic environment, ratio of faculty to students, reputation among employers, citation index, share of foreign teachers and students.
According to the head of the research Department of QS Ben Sauter, achievements of Russian universities reflect efforts that have been made in the country to internationalize higher education in order to get closer to international standards. According to him “More efforts must be undertaken, if Russian universities want to take a more important position in the top of the global ranking”.
