The 1st of September! On this day festive lines devoted to the beginning of the new academic year were held across the country. National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI” met its freshmen brightly and funny as well.
The ceremony began with the line up of freshmen near their University for the orderly procession to the reserve museum “Kolomenskoye”, where they watched theatrical performance, prepared jointly by the staff of the Museum and the University. On the way to the place first-year students together with members of the United Council of students of MEPhI shouted funny chants, kept bright flags with symbols of the University and witty banners – “I love mathematical analysis”, “Nobel appeal”, which cheered up passers-by.
Great and colorful action took place in Kolomensky Park near the Palace. From the depths of history new students were congratulated by the Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich Romanov, Emperor Peter the Great and Empress Catherine the Great.
During the official part of the festival honorary guests of the event congratulated the students and wished them luck, successful pass of the first end-of-term exams, a happy student life and distinguished career. At the end of the official part academic male choir of the MEPhI performed “Gaudeamus” and the Moscow anthem for first-year students.
The celebration was continued at the Creative center “Moskvorechie” by the concert prepared by creative teams of the University: vocal Studio “Quanto di Stella”, the chamber choir of MEPhI “CarpeDiem”, sports and dance group “ЭСТА”, Rock laboratory. Rousing numbers were shown by sports teams of the University – fitness and aerobics team, as well as Sambo club. Pop-theatrical studio “ДТП” and the Eighth team of creative association took an active part in the celebration program.
Representatives of the United Council of students, the Board of residence halls, the Engineering Science Center, the Centre for cultural projects, the Service of good deeds, the Student construction brigades and the Club of experts presented their organizations and invited students to join their ranks.
The holiday ended at the entrance to the University with the traditional ceremony of initiation into students.
