Enrollment campaign 2014 in MEPhI
28.08.2014

Enrollment of good, very good and excellent students – this was the task of MEPhI. Of course, dynamic development of the University in recent years brought hope for a successful campaign. The important role is still played by the unique opportunities, which are offered to students and graduates of MEPhI: qualitative fundamental engineering education, development of academic mobility, demand for graduates in science, industry and business, a higher proportion of graduates entering master and postgraduate studies.

For the convenience of applicants and to attract the best entrants MEPhI admissions office set an earlier document acceptance: for the first year of bachelor and specialist study – on June 16, magistracy and postgraduate study – on April 15.

Pursuing the quality of enrollment, MEPhI admissions office has appreciably raised the minimum number of points for Uniform state exams, required for acceptance of documents: the minimum mark for individual subjects was 55, 60, 65 or even 75 points (depending on major / specialty). This approach allowed to reduce the number of applicants with a small number of points. Despite a significant reduction of the unified state examination marks of this year, the average exam mark of MEPhI enrollees was 85,3 compared with 86,5 in 2013. The variance of passing marks for different specialities was as follows: from 284 points (speciality “Information-analytical security systems”) to 219 points (speciality “Technology of isotope separation”).

The number of contests winners, participating in it with a 100 mark for the state exam on the contests subject, was 143 people; the number of contests winners, enrolled in the University without entrance examinations, almost doubled (41 versus 22 in 2013).

Among enrollees there are many graduates of pre-universities, lyceums and schools, collaborating with the University. For the first time we got the guys from the Crimea, who entered through the individual competition – 7 people are on the specialist’ and bachelor’s program and 1 master.

This year there was a significant increase of admission in master course. MEPhI enrolled 538 students (2013 – 374) in Master's degree programme.

We should noted good information support of the admission campaign – call center and forum worked almost around the clock. For those students and parents who want to get answers personally there were regularly held meetings with representatives of the Admissions Committee. In the opinion of the majority of the applicants, the organization of the admission campaign in MEPhI is still one of the best among Moscow universities.
