These days are the 60th anniversary of one of the largest MEPhI faculties – Faculty of Cybernetics and Information Security. It includes 3 sectors: “Cybernetics”, “Information security” and “Financial and economic security”.

In 1954 a faculty of computational mathematics devices was created in MEPhI, which in 1966 was divided into faculties “Automatics and electronics” and “Electronic computing devices”. In 1971 the faculty “Electronic computing devices” was renamed “Cybernetics”. In 1995 a faculty “Information security”, which existed in this capacity until 2011, was separated from the “Cybernetics”.

On the 30th of May 2011 “Information security” and “Cybernetics” were reunited in “Cybernetics and Information Security” faculty (“КиБ”) by the decision of the MEPhI Academic Board with the aim of training and retraining of highly qualified specialists in the field of information technologies and systems.

Today the “KIB” faculty is one of the leading centers of higher school for bachelors and masters training in computer science and programming, who is capable of creating innovative IT developments of the global level. Students receive traditional for MEPhI fundamental physical and mathematical training, as well as in-depth training on discrete mathematics, computer science and information technologies.

Traditional partner companies in the training and employment of students and graduates of the faculty “КиБ” are: Rosatom, the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, the Russian Federal Service for Technical and Export Control, Concern “Systemprom”, “Central Scientific-Research Institute of Economics, Informatics and Control Systems", airport “Domodedovo” and many others.
