July 11, 2014. MEPhI has been visited by the delegation of the Delft University of Technology (the Netherlands). The delegation was headed by the President of the University Dirk van den Berg. In the delegation were Rikert Linssen – General Manager of the Reactor Institute Delft (there is a nuclear reactor on the territory of the Delft University of Technology), Teunis Klapwijk – Professor of the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Marietta Spiekerman-Middelplaats, a senior policy Advisor for the internationalization of the Department of Strategic Development. The delegation was accompanied by a senior expert of the Department of culture, science and education of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Pavel Kuzmin.
Dirk van den Berg and Rikert Linssen presented Delft University of Technology and Reactor Institute Delft. MEPhI was introduced by O.V.Nagornov, the first vice-principal. He prepared a presentation on the activities of the University, telling about the specifics of the territorially-distributed University, which implements a wide range of educational programs in the interests of the nuclear industry of the Russian Federation. Representatives of the Delft University noted possibility of cooperation between MEPhI and the network of European Union universities on the basis of creation and use of research network of nuclear universities.
Mr. Dirk van der Berg made a report about prospects of development of universities in the Netherlands and the positioning of the TU Delft in international rankings. Emphasis was on the development of student campus and innovative infrastructure of the University. The report also brought issues up concerning bilateral cooperation and interaction, especially in the field of nuclear technologies and education.
Report of the representative of the Reactor Institute Delft Mr. Rik Linssen was devoted to researches conducted using a research reactor, located on the campus. General Manager covered issues of application of proton therapy in nuclear medicine, usage of nuclear reactors in collaborative research universities of the European Union, production of battery of increased capacity and other promising areas of research.
Representatives of the Reactor Institute Delft expressed interest in establishing strong and lasting contacts with MEPhI in educational, innovation and scientific-technological spheres. In this regard, during the meeting there was signed a Memorandum of Understanding between MEPhI and Delft University of Technology, on the basis of which it is planned to expand and develop prospects for long-term intensive cooperation between the Universities.
Afterwards the delegation went into the Laboratory of experimental nuclear physics, where they got acquainted with equipment and researches conducted by MEPhI in this area. Then they visited Nanocentre, which mission was told by the Vice-principal N.I.Kargin. Also Dutch delegation visited the youth Engineering Science Centre.
The meeting ended with the discussion of plans of future cooperation, in particular, exchange of teachers, researchers, graduates and students, joint research projects, “double degree” and other.
The specifics of the Technical University of Delft is the training of bachelors and masters in the amount of about 1000 people in the sphere of nuclear industry and technologies, which coincides with strategic educational initiative of MEPhI.
