On the 1st of July a regular meeting of the MEPhI Academic Board was held, which, according to the tradition, began with birthday greetings. Members of the Academic Board congratulated Professor of the Department of physical education, Master of sports of international class K.A.Romanovsky on the 75th anniversary and wished him health and well-being.
Also they noted the staff of the University who is engaged in landscape design of MEPhI: M.I.Antonova, I.V.Tsvetkova and G.G.Telyshev. Flower arrangements made by designers attract attention by originality and bright harmonious combination of colors and daily gladden students, staff and guests of the University.
Further work of the Academic Board continued according to the approved agenda. The first issue was devoted to the results of annual monitoring of higher education organizations in key areas of their activities. This analysis system of efficiency indicators of higher education institutions is now a mechanism of direct control on higher education quality in the country. Authoritative experts reviewed activities of more than 2,000 state and non-state universities and branches.
MEPhI has achieved excellent results – indicators of the University significantly exceed threshold of almost all monitoring indicators. Especially high positions of MEPhI were noted in the research and economic activities: the volume of R&D per one academic employee is almost 15 times more than a threshold parameter, the income of the University per academic employee – more than 3 times.
The next report was about the current position of MEPhI in leading Russian and international ratings. This year the University has maintained a high position in the national ranking “Interfax” & “Echo of Moscow” (3rd place) and improved the result in the national rating of the Agency “Expert RA” (2014 – the 3rd, 2013 – the 4th place).
MEPhI has attained a deserved position in international ratings as well. This year the University was ranked 57th in the QS – BRICS rating improving last year's result on 8 positions. At the same time MEPhI has reached the 9th place among Russian universities (in 2013 – 10th place).
Also this year MEPhI entered the subject rating QS (Physics & Astronomy) for the first time, occupying a good position 251-300. In the rating Scimago Institutions Rankings (among Russian universities) MEPhI is on the 5th place. In the ranking of CIS universities by the “Expert RA” Agency it has joined group B, which got only 18 universities in addition to MEPhI.
Acting Head of Legal Department D.L.Lozovsky presented information on activities of the Supervisory Board of MEPhI. Supervisory Board is a new management system in Russian higher education, which aims to provide strategic management, to be responsible for development and success of the University. The Supervisory Board of MEPhI is headed by Director General of the State Corporation “Rosatom” Sergei Kiriyenko.
From May 2012 to June 2014 Supervisory Board held seven meetings, at which more than 50 issues of the University were considered. It included: Program of MEPhI competitiveness increase among the world's leading scientific and educational centers, MEPhI participation in R&D for “Rosatom” needs, rector's report on the development of MEPhI during 2007-2013, development strategy of MEPhI for 2014-2020.
At the meeting of the Supervisory Board on June 11, 2014, the General Director of State Corporation “Rosatom” S.V. Kiriyenko submitted for consideration an issue of nomination M.N.Strikhanov in the Russian Ministry of education and science to the post of MEPhI principal for the 2015-2020 period. The Supervisory Board unanimously supported the candidacy.
