On May 19 an open lecture by the leaders of the “Breakthrough” project was held in MEPhI. Deputy General Director, Director of the Unit for innovation management of the State Corporation “Rosatom” V.A.Perschukov and scientific leader of N.A. Dollezhal Research and Development Institute of Power Engineering “NIKIET” E.O.Adamova spoke to students, post-graduates and specialists of the consortium of supporting institutions of State Corporation “Rosatom”.

V.A.Perschukov represented a new technological platform of nuclear energy, developed by the SC “Rosatom” – a “Breakthrough” project – to the younger generation of nuclear engineers. He said that one of the priority tasks for implementation was increase in scientific and technical competences and rejuvenation of personnel. It is important that young specialists come to work at the “Breakthrough”, who will be able to learn from the experience of the older generation and to remain in the project.

Project management has developed an attractive educational, material and non-material support for future builders of the new technological platform of nuclear energy.

In particular, this year the Department “Technology of the closed nuclear fuel cycle” was opened in MEPhI for the purpose of preparing specialists for responsibility centers of the “Breakthrough” project. The Department will develop specialized training programmes for individual areas of training. It is planned that leading specialists of the nuclear industry will participate in the educational process. The training program is designed to form a students’ comprehensive notion of the “Breakthrough” project and of the closed nuclear fuel cycle technologies.

As a part of the program a series of courses will also be run: on neutron physics, fast reactors, new fuel, radiochemistry, technologies of processing spent fuel and radioactive wastes, safety and economy of closed nuclear fuel cycle. Students will hold field trip in responsibility centers of the “Innovation and Technology Center of the project “Breakthrough”. It is expected that the competitive selection on new speciality №140800 “Nuclear physics and technology” will be held in June - July of this year, and the study will begin in September.

In all the open lecture was attended by about 150 students from the consortium of supporting institutions of the State Corporation “Rosatom”: from MEPhI (including Obninsk, Ozersk, Volgodonsk, Dimitrovgrad and Novouralsk branches), NRU MPEI, National University of Science and Technology MISiS, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Ivanovo Power Engineering Institute, Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod, Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University n.a. R.E. Alexeev.
