On May 12-14 2014 Los Angeles (California, the U.S.) hosted the final of the International contest of scientific and engineering creativity of pupils Intel ISEF (International Science and Engineering Fair).

More than 1000 students from 60 countries take part in the competition. The team from Russia included winners of several All-Russian competitions: “Scientists of the future”, “РОСТ”, “Avangard”, “Junior”.

Finalists presented their research projects in different nominations: “Mathematics”, “Chemistry”, “Physics and astronomy”, “Biochemistry”, “Engineering (materials and bioengineering)” and others.

Eight pupils from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sarov were representatives of the contest “Junior” in the international finals and won three awards:

Ekaterina Kutsenok (Lyceum 1303, Moscow) took the second place in the main competition for the work “New synthesis of mannuronic-donor, study of its conformations and stereoselectivity in glycosylation reaction”.

Nikolay Mostovsky (school №564, Saint-Petersburg) won the third place in the main competition and received a special prize of the American mathematical society for his work “Cohomology of finite groups without use of homological algebra”.

This is the best result of the Russian team: participants from other competitions from Russia, having as many awards, didn’t rise above the fourth place.

The organizing committee of the contest “Junior” congratulates Ekaterina and Nikolay on winning the most prestigious scientific awards!
