On 7-8 April MEPhI was visited by a delegation of representatives of four leading universities of the Republic of Belarus. In the framework of the visit Belarusian colleagues were able to get acquainted with the University, as well as to discuss issues of cooperation expansion between universities.
The Belarusian delegation was led by the adviser of Higher Education Authority of the Ministry of education of the Republic of Belarus N.S.Maruda. The purpose of the visit was to discuss issues associated with the possibility of training Belarusian students of a magistracy and postgraduate study in the MEPhI. Representatives of the Belarusian State University, Belarusian National Technical University, International Sakharov Environmental University and Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics considered the future of comprehensive cooperation in the field of training specialists for the nuclear industry of the Republic of Belarus at the extended meeting with participation of representatives of MEPhI Departments and Faculties.
During the meeting it was noted that quality construction and safe operation of constructing Belarus NPPs can be ensured only by specially prepared highly qualified personnel. In connection with the fact that Belarus nuclear power industry and specialists preparation in Belarusian universities is still in its development, there is a need for cooperation with foreign universities in the field of masters’ and researchers’ of higher qualification training on nuclear specialties, creation of joint educational programs, including professional development programmes. It’s needed to solve issues of teaching Belarus students on specific subjects, including the execution of laboratory works and diploma projects in Russian partner universities, passing production (and predegree) practices. Previous experience of cooperation between Belarusian universities and MEPhI shows that institutions interaction on these issues can be very effective.
In this connection, the Ministry of education of the Republic of Belarus appealed to the MEPhI leadership with a proposal to expand the bilateral contractual basis of cooperation with Belarusian universities and to assist them in solving topical for the Republic issues on specialists preparation. It is assumed that joint work on training of Belarusian citizens in the MEPhI will be confirmed in a form of agreements between universities and a work plan for the period 2014-2020.
