On March 29 MEPhI held the Open day at the Faculty of part-time (evening) education.

More than 200 pupils, college students and working youth came to learn about entering conditions, examinations and privileges on an evening-time and part-time education and to know more about the Faculty and departments. The possibility of combining work and study is also attractive to people who intend to get second higher education.

Evening Department was organized within the Engineering and physical Faculty of the Moscow Mechanical Institute (the former name of the MEPhI) in January 1949 for the laboratory staff training for the USSR Academy of Sciences in the field of the newest technology. In 1961 the Evening Department got the status of a Faculty.

Lots of famous scientists participated in the Faculty work. Among first teachers, conducted classes at the Evening Department in 1949, was the future Nobel prizewinner, academician Andrei Sakharov. Today MEPhI Evening Faculty is famous for its high level of students’ preparation. Among its graduates are heads of enterprises and state structures, winners of prestigious contests and awards.

Evening Faculty trains specialists for research institutions and production enterprises in 4 areas and 1 specialty. During the studies students get fundamental physical and mathematical training, computer and general engineering education, study a wide range of economic disciplines, specialize in the field of the newest achievements in experimental and theoretical physics.

This event was a good opportunity to obtain the most complete information about the Faculty of part-time (evening) education and allowed prospective applicants to make an optimal choice of future profession and form of training.
