Rating Agency “Expert RA” has published its rating of the universities from CIS countries. 153 universities entered the best list, representing Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan.
The rating is based on statistical data and surveys results of more than 5.5 thousand respondents – teachers, employers, scientists, students and alumni.
All entered the rating universities are divided into five rating classes from A to E. The class A indicates an extremely high level of graduates’ preparation, class B means a very high level and rating classes C, D and E reflect high and sufficient level of graduates’ preparation.
Only one University got into the group A – Lomonosov Moscow State University. MEPhI is in the group B, which all in all includes 18 universities: Belarusian State University, Kiev National University, MGIMO, MIPT, MPEI, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Higher School of Economics (HSE), St. Petersburg State University, Ural Federal University and other.
In ratings comments the MSU principal Victor Sadovnichy expressed the opinion that Russian universities should actively participate in various ratings, strive not only for the most famous international rankings, such as the QS and THE.
Russian Deputy Minister of education and science Alexander Klimov agreed that the universities’ promotion may be done in different directions – strengthening of positions in world ratings as well as creation of international ratings, which would take into account features of our system of education.
Yaroslav Kuzminov, the HSE principal commented the idea of new ratings and cited as an example Shanghai Jiao Tong University, which suggested creation of the Shanghai rating. From the very beginning this University was out of the top-400 itself and now it’s on the 200th place. It’s the example of creation of the reliable rating. Creation of more correct rating taking into account factors ignored by others and occupation for example the 200th place at the beginning – it’s the right way. Immediate 5th place won’t make such rating trustful.
