February 21 the Russian Federation Deputy Minister of Defense, Doctor of Engineering Science, Professor Yuriy Ivanovich Borisov visited MEPhI. He met the University leadership and got acquainted with the main results of scientific-research works, conducted at the Institute of extreme applied electronics MEPhI, the Institute of functional nuclear electronics MEPhI as well as at the Department number 3 “Electronics”.

Yu.I.Borisov is an experienced specialist in the field of radio electronics. He is a graduate of two higher military schools and of the faculty “Computational mathematics and cybernetics” of Lomonosov Moscow State University. As the Deputy Minister of Defense he is in charge of the military sphere of scientific researches, which are directed at the modernization and re-equipment of the modern Armed Forces for the purpose of further strengthening of the government defense and security.

In the frame of the visit Yu.I.Borisov gave a lecture to the MEPhI students, where he covered the state and prospects of the domestic military-industrial complex and the Armed Forces equipping with modern weapons.

The Deputy Minister noted that today the state arms program aimed at the radical transformation of the Armed Forces, at the development and production of modern military hardware. In this regard the Ministry requires high-level professionals, whose scientific knowledge will contribute to the innovative development of the military sector.

He said that today there are new military complexes in the inventory of Russian army, which are equal or superior to similar foreign systems by their integral characteristics of the combat effectiveness. At the same time there are still a lot of issues to be solved, as for example in the field of space weaponry, which is already under the active work in MEPhI.

Also Yu.I.Borisov told about the new initiatives of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in the field of military training. He especially marked out the project «Scientific company». MEPhI graduates participate in such formations and effectively solve real problems. Moreover, there is already a statistics on published scientific works and patents, which were obtained in the process of this work. Yu.I.Borisov added that the experience of scientific companies showed its effectiveness and necessity. Therefore the work on its forming will be continued.

With this lecture completed Deputy Minister of Defense answered numerous questions of the students and then congratulated everyone on the coming holiday – the Day of Fatherland’s defender.
