A meeting of the Rector M.N.Strikhanov with the representatives of Thomson Reuters on behalf of the vice-president of Scholarly & Scientific Research company direction Chris Burghardt and Account Manager Oleg Utkin took place in MEPhI on 28 February.

During the meeting MEPhI staff made ​​a series of review presentations on the history, development and activities of the University. D.M. Mikhailov, the head of the engineering center, highlighted the achievements of this center, focusing on a number of successful developments. Among them there are endoscopic video capsule that allows getting the complete information about the state of the digestive system, entirely avoiding any discomfort of this procedure, and the software product “Green Head” that was specially designed to protect mobile devices against unauthorized and fraudulent actions. The following presenter was the head of the Information Policy department in MEPhI A.I. Cherkassky who told representatives about multiagent information and analysis system MIAS that provides scientific and technological activities of the University.

Thomson Reuters representatives appreciated the level of ongoing developments at the University and, in turn, told MEPhI students and staff about the company's journal selection process for Web of Science.

Web of Science is the most authoritative global citation database indexing more than 12,000 scientific world journals which undergo the careful selection. Web of Science is used by scientists around the world for thematic informing, searching for partners to implement joint research projects, journal selection to publish the work, evaluation and promoting the results of their research. MEPhI has been given access to the Web of Science database since 2010.

In general the meeting was held in a warm business setting. Chris Burghardt gladly answered student questions about the possibility to undergo internship in the company, and about what mainly brought him to the today’s success.

At the end of the visit M.N. Strikhanov and Christopher Burdhardt signed an agreement aimed at expanding of cooperation between the parties and competitiveness growth of MEPhI among the leading research and education centers. Agreement provides for cooperation in the field of education, science, production and implementation of joint educational programs to meet the needs of the university and the company in specialists, to enhance professional competence of the university staff and to introduce new technologies, scientific developments and projects.
