Specialized scientific conference “Atomtech 2013”
08.04.2013

On April 3-4, 2013 in MEPhI was held the first scientific conference "Atomteh-2013" organized by the State Corporation "Rosatom", JSC "Science and Innovation" and MEPhI. The purpose of the conference was to discuss the current state and prospects for development of scientific and technological innovations, based on knowledge, technologies and experience gained for domestic nuclear power industry. It is planned to hold such conferences regularly and involve different foreign partners.

The conference was attended by the heads of research areas, leading scientists of organizations and enterprises of the State Corporation "Rosatom", the RAN Institute, National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute", representatives of universities - members of "Consortium of Universities Supporting Rosatom State Corporation " assotiation.

The topic of the discussions was presented by Deputy General Director of Rosatom State Corporation ¬ Director of the Innovation Complex Vyacheslav Pershukov. "Today we are not going to talk about the traditional areas of nuclear energy, but how to apply the knowledge and nuclear technologies that we have for the benefit of people in their everyday life. The matter is that the nuclear energy, nuclear science and nuclear technologies - not only nuclear power plants, but is also a nuclear medicine, all the methods of security organization. Solving such problems we will significantly expand the possibilities of use of our knowledge and talents, as well as to expand the geography of markets that we're going to form. This conference - our first experience and I hope it will be positive, "- he said.

Nuclear power now is the main segment of development of Rosatom State Corporation. The State in the frame of the federal program identified the task to create programs of fundamental research activities concerning the alternative sources. In this regard the State Corporation faced a serious challenge not only to make a list of specific projects, but to develop a "road map", i.e. to determine the areas of science which is necessary to develop. V.A. Pershukov in his report presented in details this important instrument for research and development activities. The recommendations for the executives of Rosatom State Corporation in making decisions concerning the direction of innovative and scientific activities should be the main mission of the "road map". "We still live by the principle - we will do what we can do well, but the problem is that now it is necessary to know exactly the tendencies of development of the world. The most important thing now is not to miss the opportunity to adjust to the tendencies of the international community ", - concluded A.V.Pershukov.

Mikhail Strikhanov, Rector of MEPhI, noted a great interest of the scientific community expressed to the "Atomteh-2013." "It is a great honor and responsibility for us to host at the University the prominent nuclear scientists, leading experts in the nuclear industry. I am very glad that so many students are here in the conference hall, not only from our head Moscow department, but from our twenty branches as well. Besides, there are students and teachers from 14 Universities supporting Rosatom State Corporation that train 98% of personnel for the Corporation for all its major sectors, "- said the Rector.

In order to turn into reality the ambitious plans of the nuclear industry development we need competent young professionals, and knowledge is the primary resource in implementation of technological breakthrough. "Personnel - our future and what we can expect in 20-30 years depends on the young people that will come to us," - said the Rector of MEPhI M.N.Strihanov. In his report "MEPhI and personnel training for the benefit of the State Corporation" Rosatom " he presented the concept how to use effectively mutual educational programs with the State Corporation" Rosatom ", new technologies, which let form the students’ practical skills and competencies corresponding the requirements of State Corporation. At the end of the report M.N.Strihanova emphasized that the desire of MEPhI to be in the top 100 world universities rankings is based on significant experience. Participation in advanced scientific research is a key condition to enter this elite group of world higher education. The teachers and the students of MEPhI will apply their efforts in achievement of this goal, it is important to establish the correct co-operation and involve young scientists into solving important scientific problems.

On behalf of the Skolkovo Innovation Center the participants were welcomed by the Vice-President of Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (SkolTeh) Alexey Ponomarev. He noted that in the Center was created a broad structure, which is devoted to helping young professionals to enter into a new generation of technologies and industries. “We have our priorities in the nuclear technology cluster and it is only one thing left- desire, mood, motivation, especially of young people. We hope to see you and work with you. We believe in your success! "- said A.K.Ponomarev.

The conference was divided into 7 plenary thematic sections and there were invited different experts. During the conference were presented and discussed for more than thirty papers on specialized topics. The sections "Hybrid Systems", "HTS Energy Storage", "independent energy sources and alternative fuels energy systems" were devoted to the energy problems. During the section "Radiation and Plasma Technology" were presented the reports concerning the effects of ionizing radiation, high-power laser pulses, low-temperature plasma on different systems. The section "Materials" was devoted to the results of the development, testing and organization of production of advanced materials and products, complex processing of natural raw materials. During the section "Medical, agro- and bio appliance of nuclear technology" was presented a wide range of high-energy impacts on living systems. In general, the conference demonstrated a significant scientific potential, which is necessary together with research organizations, universities and industry enterprises to "convert" into a new round of technological development of the State Corporation "Rosatom".
