On February 24, Dmitry Savkin, Vice-rector of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, met with the leadership of the University of Dunaujvaros in Hungary. The negotiations discussed areas of cooperation related to the training of personnel for the maintenance of the future Paks-2 nuclear power plant, the first concrete for which was poured on February 5, 2026.

The meeting was an important step towards the implementation of an international educational project with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation and Rosatom State Corporation.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the possibilities of training qualified specialists for NPP maintenance, including internships, internships and exchange of experience.
Also on the agenda were:
- Development of the concept of a joint bachelor's degree program in the field of nuclear physics and technology, taking into account the requirements of the future labor market and the specifics of the operation of a nuclear power plant.
- Defining the content of the program, which will fully cover the necessary competencies and skills of a future highly qualified specialist.
- Assessment of the mechanism of the program implementation in the format of international cooperation and subsequent stages (accreditation, mobility of students and teachers, research projects).
The following results were achieved during the meeting:
- The main areas of cooperation on personnel training for nuclear power plants have been agreed upon: the educational unit, the technological base, internships, internships and joint laboratory projects.
- The parameters of the content of the bachelor's degree program have been determined, which will cover the basic theory and applied disciplines in the field of nuclear physics and technology, as well as the competencies necessary for the operation and maintenance of highly hazardous facilities.
- The willingness of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI and the University of Dunaujvaros to work together on the design of the curriculum, develop training modules and evaluate learning outcomes in order to ensure compliance with international standards was confirmed.
- It was decided to form a working group of representatives of both institutions to prepare a draft version of education, taking into account the recommendations of experts and industry stakeholders.
This meeting will serve as the basis for the preparation of a draft agreement on the implementation of an international joint educational program. The agreement will reflect the program's mission, course structure, step-by-step implementation mechanisms, accreditation requirements, and performance indicators. The program will be implemented with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation and the State Corporation Rosatom, which will ensure the necessary level of financing, infrastructure support and international implementation.
The next stages of work on the program will include a detailed design of the course content and schedule of the program. The heads of the two universities noted the importance of the synergy of academic tradition and practical training, as well as the need for timely response to the needs of the nuclear industry. Both sides stressed the strategic importance of cooperation for the training of highly qualified personnel in the field of nuclear energy in the international arena.
After the meeting, Dmitry Savkin paid a return visit to the city of Kaloch. The Mayor of Kaloch, Mr. Zoltan Bago, expressed interest in implementing a joint educational project with the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI to train personnel for the Paks-2 NPP maintenance. As Mr. Bago noted, the nuclear power plant will become a center of attraction for young specialists and workers, which will give a new round of development to Kaloch. Therefore, the city government is ready to make every effort to launch joint educational programs of various formats, first of all, to provide a material base: to provide facilities for the educational process and for a dormitory.
