MEPhI develops cooperation with Brazil

On February 3, 2026, a meeting of the Russian-Brazilian Working Group on Educational, Scientific and Technical Cooperation was held in Rio de Janeiro, timed to coincide with the visit of Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to Brazil.

MEPhI was represented by Vice Rector Dmitry Savkin, who in his speech spoke about the cooperation of our university with the Federal Universities of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the HakAtom program and educational modules taught by MEPhI professors at the Institute of Nuclear Energy (IPEN), under the jurisdiction of the National Atomic Energy Commission of Brazil (CNEN). The program of educational modules has been implemented annually since 2019 as part of the cooperation between MEPhI and Rosatom State Corporation.

 

After the meeting of the Working Group, Dmitry Savkin and Francisco Rondinelli, Director General of the National Atomic Energy Commission of Brazil, signed agreements to launch a two-year master's degree program, which involves studying in the first year at the IATE National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, and in the second at IPEN in Sao Paulo. This program was developed as part of an order from Rosatom and is designed to provide this BRICS country with nuclear specialists with training experience in Russia.
