The Russian Government has allocated the National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI" a grant of 960 million rubles for the creation of a world-class Scientific Center (WCSC) "Electronic and quantum technologies based on synthetic diamond".

Funding will be allocated for 3 years. The establishment of the center corresponds to the priority area of scientific and technological development "Security of receiving, storing, transmitting and processing information."

Synthetic diamond has a unique combination of physical and electronic properties, such as a wide band gap, high thermal conductivity, high mobility of charge carriers, ability to operate at extreme temperatures, radiation resistance, chemical inertia and mechanical strength, transparency in a wide spectral range, in these parameters it surpasses most of the semiconductors used today, which makes it promising a material for advanced electronics and optoelectronics.

The task of the new scientific center will be to develop technologies for power and microwave electronic component base based on synthetic diamond, research in the field of diamond quantum optics, as well as training highly qualified personnel in the field of new electronics and quantum technologies based on synthetic diamond.

The ultimate strategic goal of the new center will be to achieve national leadership in the field of electronic and quantum technologies based on synthetic diamond.
