MEPhI and SIOM have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at mutual exchange in the field of higher education and scientific research on a mutually beneficial basis.
On April 1, representatives of the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIOM) arrived in MEPhI on a second visit: Director Chen Weibiao, Secretary of the party committee Shao Jianda, head of the Department of Scientific and Technical Cooperation Wen Lei, head of International cooperation Zheng Miao and scientific staff of the institute. The Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics was founded in 1964, it is first and largest large-scale scientific research institute in China specializing in laser technologies.
Vice-rectors Nikolai Kargin and Dmitry Savkin introduced the Chinese guests to the structure of the university and its international activities in the field of education and science, Professors Ivan Vasilevsky, Rostislav Starikov, Evgeny Zlokazov, director of the Transfer Center Roman Zakharchenko, Director of the LaPlaz Institute Andrey Kuznetsov, Director of the Engineering Center Vladimir Klokov told about the work and achievements of their departments.nts. In turn, Professors Liu Shijie and Wang Jun acquainted the university representatives with their achievements and research plans in the field of power laser technologies and photonic integrated circuits. The Chinese delegation toured the Engineering Center, the Center for Radiophotonics and Microwave Technologies (Nanocenter), the laboratories of the Laplace Institute, including the ELF kilojoule laser installation.
Rector of the MEPhI Vladimir Shevchenko and SIOM Director Chen Weibiao signed a Memorandum of Understanding providing for mutual exchange in the field of higher education and scientific research on a mutually beneficial basis. The parties plan to develop joint research programs and joint use of research infrastructures, create joint research laboratories, organize bilateral symposiums and conferences, exchange students, as well as conduct specialized and comprehensive programs for bachelors, masters and postgraduates.
As a result of the negotiations, representatives of the MEPhI received an invitation to visit the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics on a return visit to begin the development of long-term mutually beneficial cooperation.
