MEPhI was visited by the HR Director of South Africa's largest energy company Eskom, Elsie Pule, and the head of the Nuclear Knowledge Management Section of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Pedro Dieguez Porras. The topic of discussion, in which representatives of the Rosatom Corporate Academy also took part, was cooperation in the field of personnel training.
The head of the Center for Nanobiomedicine of the Institute of Engineering Physics for Biomedicine (PhysBio) of the MEPhI, Professor Sergei Klimentov introduced the guests in detail to the tasks, scientific achievements and prospects for the development of the institute. His colleagues covered in detail medical education within the walls of the university.
Deputy Director for International Activities of the Institute for Nuclear Physics and Engineering (INPhE) of the MEPhI Alexander Khromov made a presentation on nuclear education at the university.
Elsie Pule, in turn, said that Eskom occupies more than 90% of the South African energy market, generating electricity from coal, nuclear energy, oil, water and wind.
“We recognize that we have many opportunities for cooperation and mutual assistance,” she said.
The meeting participants reached a preliminary agreement on the preparation of a cooperation agreement.
IAEA representative Pedro Dieguez Porras invited PhysBio representatives to take part in the joint development of educational programs that are implemented under the auspices of the IAEA.
This is not the first visit of a delegation from South Africa to MEPhI this year. On June 8, representatives of the South African Ministry of Education visited the university. Then foreign guests got acquainted with the possibilities of Russian engineering and nuclear education.
