On August 30, the annual meeting of the MEPhI faculty and scientists was held. The rector of the university, Vladimir Shevchenko, in his report spoke in detail about the current state of the university and the main directions of its further development.
A Meeting of the Faculty and Scientists of MEPhI
The event began musically and solemnly with the old student hymn Gaudeamus. The concluding words of the anthem "Alma Mater floreat ..." were harmoniously echoed by greetings from friends and partners of the university, members of the Supervisory Board: Head of Rosatom state corporation Alexei Likhachev, President of the Kurchatov Institute Mikhail Kovalchuk, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Dmitry Afanasyev, General Director of the National Medical Radiology Research Center Andrei Kaprin, as well as the Director General of Roscosmos and the MEPhI graduate Yuri Borisov.
The next part of the event was devoted to a sad topic: meeting participants remembered those who untimely left MEPhI over the past year. On the screen, the names and portraits of those who left passed in a mournful sequence. Their memory was honored with a minute of silence, after which the most informative part of the meeting began - the report of the university rector Vladimir Shevchenko.
The presentation, which included more than 50 slides, reflected the main events that took place at the university in the 2021/2022 academic year as well as the plans for the next year. The participants of the meeting received information about the scientific achievements and awards of the MEPhI employees, about the new departments of the university, about the results of the admission campaign, about the projects and programs in which the university is participating today, about development plans (including campus renovation plans), about upcoming changes in personnel policy.
Of particular interest was the report on the development of effective contracts with teachers, which will require a revision of the requirements for classroom workload and publication activity. In support of this initiative, speakers from the audience made it clear that there are many complaints about the existing rules. The rector expressed his point of view on a number of questions raised from the audience.
In general, the atmosphere was festive - the current academic year, as Vladimir Shevchenko emphasized, is the 80th anniversary of MEPhI. On November 23, 2022, a big concert will be held in the Grand Kremlin Palace in honor of the anniversary of the university.
