Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding physicist, MEPhI graduate and Nobel laureate Nikolai Basov.

The President instructs the government to form an organizing committee within a month to prepare and hold the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the scientist, and also, starting from 2023, to establish five personal scholarships named after Nikolai Basov.
Nikolai Basov is a 1950 MEPhI graduate. In 1978, he organized and headed the Department of Quantum Electronics at MEPhI, later renamed the Department of Laser Physics.
Basov is a laureate of the Nobel Prize in Physics (1964), the Lenin Prize (1959) and the State Prize of the USSR (1989).
He made a significant contribution to the development of quantum electronics and the emergence of laser systems, becoming one of the creators of a microwave ammonia generator - a maser.
The monument to Nikolai Basov on the territory of MEPhI was opened in 2017.
The 100th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Basov will be celebrated on December 14, 2022.
