A Center for Microelectronic Technologies in Microwave Electronics and Integrated Photonics will be formed on the basis of MEPhI. It will create components and materials that are critical for industry. A federal grant in the amount of 240 million rubles was allocated for the creation of the center.
The future of the economy largely depends on the creation of a domestic component base for microelectronics
The center will handle technology and design development projects, as well as bringing critical components and materials to market. Among these are high-purity fluorine-containing gases for the microelectronics industry, low-noise and high-power components for microwave electronics, photonic integrated circuits for telecommunications systems, as well as intelligent systems in the field of 5G telecommunications technologies. At the same time, the center will provide educational services, involving undergraduate and graduate students of MEPhI in the performance of its work.
It is planned that by 2029 the center will provide engineering services for the creation of critical components and materials to organizations in the real sector in the amount of up to 750 million rubles, creating at least 56 sets of design and technological documentation.
The application for funds was submitted by MEPhI together with the Seversk Technological Institute (a branch of the university).
The grant was allocated in accordance with Decree of the Government of Russia No. 209 dated February 18, 2022, which provides for the provision of subsidies from the federal budget to scientific or educational organizations that develop engineering centers in the field of component development.
MEPhI will receive 96 million rubles from the grant in 2022 and another 144 million rubles in 2023.
