Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Russia Yuri Trutnev held a meeting on the use of the scientific and technological reserve and human resources of universities and scientific organizations for the development of technologies in the Arctic zone of the country. MEPhI also presented its proposals.

MEPhI presented the Nuclear Battery project. It is aimed at creating an energy source that can work for several years without recharging and at the same time does not have radiation harmful to the human body.
“To respond to the scientific and technical challenges facing Russia in the Arctic, it is necessary to cooperate with a pool of leading universities and constantly coordinate their activities within the framework of a single Arctic scientific agenda,” - said Vladimir Shevchenko, Rector of MEPhI. - Identification of the requests of government agencies and industrial companies operating in the Arctic zone, and the subsequent solution of scientific problems will require the participation of all organizations with relevant competencies. Only consolidated work will ensure the preservation and strengthening of our country's leadership in this important region.”
The meeting discussed the current Arctic agenda of the leading technological universities, their possible cooperation in the interests of researching the Arctic zone and creating technologies for the development of the north, and other issues.
It was decided to establish a scientific and technical council within the framework of the State Commission for the Arctic. The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the creation of the council will allow faster search for answers to questions related to the development of science. It is assumed that the council will work on the principle of application.
