MEPhI took 96th place in the World University Ranking 2022 (https://roundranking.com/ranking/world-university-rankings.html#world-2022), entering the "diamond league" of the best universities in the world.

On May 11, 2022, the Round University Ranking (RUR) agency published the global ranking of universities for 2022. MEPhI entered the Top-100 best universities in the world for the first time, taking 96th place. At the same time, MEPhI took the second position among the Russian universities represented in the overall world ranking, losing only to Lomonosov Moscow State University.

It is worth noting that MEPhI is consistently improving its position in the World University Ranking: in 2021 it was in 101st place, and in 2020 – in 121st place.

World University Ranking is compiled on the basis of data provided by the American company Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters), the owner of the Web of Science scientific publications database. The ranking has been published since 2010.

The RUR ranking takes into account 20 indicators that characterize four areas of university activity - education (the weight of the component in the overall ranking is 40%), scientific research (40%), international activities (10%), financial stability (10%). Depending on their position, universities are included in one of six leagues: diamond, gold, silver, bronze, copper and world. Entering the Top 100 of the ranking, MEPhI came into the diamond league for the first time.

Of the four components of the ranking, MEPhI has the strongest positions in the field of education - according to this indicator, the university ranked 94th in the world.

This year, 1028 world universities took part in the World University Ranking (869 last year), including 127 Russian universities.
